Leading the way
Sport develops young leaders who excel in skills such as organisation, communication, decision-making and teamwork and who bring these attributes into their school communities. They become rounded individuals with the confidence, self-esteem, responsibility, respect for others to be role models for a healthy, active lifestyle. NPCAT Sport is developing leadership programmes to nurture all these positive qualities and help our pupils make the most of their natural talents and abilities. |
Playground LeadersThis programme trains Year 5 pupils to lead younger pupils in structured, fun games at lunchtimes. Benefits include increased confidence and self-esteem for the older pupils who act as role models for the younger ones, leading to better behaviour as the children are actively engaged in enriched play activities. Our Playground Leaders are taught skills such as communication, fair play, organising groups and teams and the STEP principle – Space, Task, Equipment, People.

School Sports Organising CrewsSchool Sport Organising Crews work with teachers and fellow pupils to lead the planning and delivery of PE and sport competitions and playground games. Crews are made up of Year 5 and 6 pupils and membership is fully inclusive, giving everyone who wants the opportunity to contribute to creating a healthier and more active environment. Crew members also grow in confidence and develop important life skills as they engage in duties such as writing reports for newsletters, social media and the school website and presenting medals during special assemblies.

The Passport has Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels and offers an excellent incentive to focus on their personal development and their contribution to the school through sports leadership. Pupils who complete their Passport will be awarded a special certificate as well as being shortlisted for the chance to receive the prestigious NPCAT Sports Leadership Award. |
